I've been a New Jersey resident for my whole life and New Jersey has always been a rockin' good time. I've spent twenty seven years rockin' the East Coast and have always been proud to be a home grown Jersey boy. However, when it comes to home grown Jersey bands...well, there have been very few that I've liked. As a matter of fact, only one comes to mind that I've liked. In twenty seven f**king years there's only been one!! O.k. I'll give kudos to "Beyond The Flesh" for some good Jersey Death, but there is really only one name I think of when I think of Jersey. Bruce? No. Bon Jovi? F**k no. I've always been a huge NYC fan. Loads of bands throughout the years, from NYC, that I've loved. New Jersey has the most awesome, rowdy crowds and clubs, but home grown bands.....?? E-town Concrete? Ahhhhh puke!!Thank Satan they're playing their last show this month. Only one name stands out in my twenty seven years. F**king B-O-B-B-Y!!! A Jersey Metal God!! Bobby Blitz!! Bobby's the man!!! Still the man!! F**k yeah!!

Once again, we had to endure some of New Jersey's crappiest, in the form of dime-a-dozen Metalcore bands as openers. O.K. everybody. Can we please seperate the Metal from the Hardcore. We tried the mix. It sucks. So let's seperate them like they used to be. I don't want my Death Metal delivered by a skinny kid with short hair, baseball cap and buttoned down shirt screaming his face off. O.K. I want it delivered by guys (or girls) with long ass hair, skull tattoo's, bullet belts, spiked collars and wristbands and an ugly, growling motherf**ker who is buddies with Satan and sings about popping my eyes out and skullf**king my dead corpse. O.K. If I want Hardcore, then the baseball hat and buttoned down shirt is o.k, but the state of Hardcore these days completely sucks, whether it be NY or NJ or NE, it all sucks with it's pussy ass kick dancing and fighting bullshit. So, it tries to seep into the surrounding genres, because Hardcore can no longer stand on it's own. Well let it seep in to the EMO scene and become 'screamo' and hopefully they can both eliminate each other and we can be done with them both. You only have to look at the recent tour with NY Hardcore legends 'Sick Of It All' opening up for 'The Dropkick Murphys' to see the pathetic state of Hardcore on the East Coast. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. But hey, with no scene to play to.....well..enough said. Ahhhhh!! Sorry I had to vent and get that shiiiaaaat off my chest. I kept telling my best friend and assistant photographer, Donna, during the first two bands, not to worry. Bobby will save us. Even during the second band when the pit area was filled with 15 year olds with glow rings around their heads screaming "Oh my god, I love you" to the lead singer. Bobby will save us.

Well, I didn't have to wait quite that long. The atmosphere took a far turn for the better with the next band, Magus Beast, who brought out all the old schoolers with some East Coast, old school, screaming Power Metal. I recognized them from the Harder, Louder, Faster Festival and the screaming girls in the crowd were replaced by denim jacket and bandana clad rockers. Whew!! Bad enough Jersey is the EMO capital of the universe, now the kiddie Metalcore is trying to make a stand. Don't worry. We still got Bobby. And Tgod and Donna!! Also, my son and his friends!!! I've taught them right so......Anyway, Magus Beast set the tone for another of my old favorites that I've never had the opportunity to see live, Prong, and I was pumped as ever for them. Prong hit the stage and revved things up!!! They kicked freakin' butt!!! I started jumping up and down like a maniac as they pulled out all the old favorites which I don't even remember the titles. They were hard, heavy and fast. Aaron Rossi kicks ass on drums and Mike is cool as ever on bass and of course, Tommy Victor, rooooooockin' the house on guitar. They got the saaahhwet pourin' and ended it all with the ever famous "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck." It was awesome to see Prong kick ass after all these years and the earlier disappointing bands were long forgotten. But, I wasn't quite 'saved' yet.

With a completely New Jersey lineup, Overkill hit the stage to a chanting crowd and exploded with "Deny The Cross" and "Rotten To The Core". Yes, Bobby was still the man. Time for some heavy ass neck wreckin' with the crew!!! They kicked "Battle" and "Where It Hurts". It became a Jersey surfin' safari with kids, young and old, flyin' about. It was rough up front. Me and Donna had spent more time this year at B.B. Kings in NYC where the crowds are awesome, but not quite like Jersey. Jersey is always a workout up front and we were workin'!!!!! We were right up on the rail under Bobby's mic saaaahhhwweetttin'!!!!!! And Stompin'!!! They rattled the roof with "Damned", "Thankx For Nothin'", "Necroshine" and blew it off with "Long Time Dyin'", "Elimination", and "Blood and Iron". Then, they brought in "Wrecking Crew" and "Hello From The Gutter" to take down the walls! OVER-KILL, OVER-KILL chants filled The Starland and brought them back out to finish our necks off with "Coma", "Old School", and a rousing "Fuck You"!! F**k Yeah!!!

I was sore for three days after that from the awesome Jersey crowd and a Jersey's finest, thrash ass kickin'!! I had been Blitzed...and oh yes..I had been saved. Thankx Bobby!!
